Whatever your plans may be this Memorial Day, the City of Sheboygan has its own plans set, and schedule adjustments to know about, too.
City Hall will be closed as usual during the holiday and reopen on Tuesday, the 27th, as will the lobby of the Sheboygan Police Department. Also as usual, the collection of trash and recyclables is affected with Monday’s collection delayed until Tuesday, Tuesday’s until Wednesday and so forth until Friday’s collection is done on Saturday. The city’s Recycling Center on New Jersey Avenue will also be closed on Memorial Day.
Parade lovers will want to get a good seat on the route of the parade that begins at 9 a.m. going north on 7th Street beginning at Center Avenue, then west on Michigan Avenue to 9th Street where it will progress south to Fountain Park.
A ceremony at the park will follow immediately after the parade, featuring tributes to both veterans and active-duty men and women. The featured speaker will be Lt. Col. Jon Doiron of the U.S. Army.
Of course, no holiday in Sheboygan is complete without a brat fry in the park, and proceeds from this year’s grilling will go to the Military and Youth Foundation and the Marine Corps League.
The parade and ceremony are a collaboration of the City of Sheboygan, the Sheboygan County Veterans Service Office, and Launch: Lakeland Student-Run Businesses. Kohler Credit Union has stepped up to sponsor the parade.
