When you imagine the police warning the public ahead of time so they can avoid being ticketed or arrested, one might think it’s self-defeating. But that’s exactly what the Sheboygan Police Department did on Wednesday.
The goal, it said, was primarily one of high visibility, which the SPD said was the reason they posted on Facebook at about 5 p.m. Wednesday in advance of the exercise to enforce traffic laws. Heightened attention was focused on speeding, distracted driving, and following too close by drivers entering and exiting the City in the area from North 14th Street and Erie Avenue, along Kohler Memorial Drive.
Judging by responses to their post, most people were grateful for the enforcement and offered dozens of suggestions for additional operations in the future. There’s no word yet on the numbers of drivers who apparently didn’t get the message.
